What is a heat pump ?
The heat pump is a device that extracts heat from a cooler environment (outdoors), and passes the heat to a warmer environment (internal). It is being said, that the heat pump operates on the principle of a reverse refrigerator, but it is not entirely true. The heat pump and a refrigerator both operate on the principle of Carnot cycle. Fridge, however removes heat from food, and passes it to the room (the purpose is to cool the food, and the gained heat is not important), while the heat pump draws heat from outdoors, and transfers it into the room (the purpose is to warm the room, and colder environment is not important in this case) .
